The conservation of historic buildings is a specialised discipline therefore specific specialised expertise may be necessary to guide on best practice. The planning process with regard to protected structures has become complex since the Planning & Development Act 2000. Having specialised conservation advice is particularly beneficial in negotiating this process.
PLANNINGThe Planning Process, when dealing with a protected structure or listed building is seen to be difficult, however knowing and understanding the full process is key to developing a plan for any building, and tailoring the particular process to what the client wishes to achieve. Carrig has worked with many planning systems in many jurisdictions and has built special relationships with most conservation officers and planning departments in many local authorities. We believe in early engagement and consultation to minimise surprises. Where there are statutory considerations, we engage fully with such bodies at an early stage to discuss and develop a scheme that works for all.

PROJECT MANAGEMENTWith 24 years of experience all of our senior staff are competent and confident in taking leading roles in project managing medium-large jobs; working well with other design team members and main and specialist contractors. Whilst our detailed specifications are well known and respected there has to be a certain flexibility when dealing with heritage buildings – one always finds something unknown when work commences – a speedy and innovative solution can be found and implemented without affecting cost or programme as long as there is constant and two-way communication on site.
