ABOUT

Carr(a)ig means 'Stone' in the Irish Language. With a specialism in historic building materials, we are at the forefront of the promotion of the Built Heritage sector. Established in 1995 by our MD, Peter Cox, Carrig Conservation is one of the oldest and largest building conservation consultancies currently operating in Ireland, with a specialist focus on architecture and energy efficiency in traditional buildings.

With our knowledge of, and advancements in energy efficiency, we adopt an holistic approach to the adaptation and retrofit of existing buildings. ​We employ a multi-disciplinary team with expertise spanning the areas of architectural conservation, new build, energy retrofit or existing buildings, materials' analysis, and research. ​

​With a scientific ethos and background, we offer a unique level of service to architects, engineers, private buildings owners, state parties, Local Authorities and NGOs. We like to engage with the client in the early stages of design & planning to allow us to contribute and advise and align this with best conservation practice. ​

​Employing the best practice principles of international conservation charters, Carrig has earned a reputation for considered conservation strategies. Our approach to the energy retrofit of existing buildings is based on research, data and modelling, done to improve energy efficiency as much as is practicable without jeopardising material stability or the heritage significance of the building. We also offer research services on topics such as climate change adaptation, architectural research and policy development.
