Energy Efficiency
With Carrig’s expertise in Building Fabric Conservation, expanding these services to encompass guidance on improving energy efficiency of traditional buildings was a natural step.
We now offer a specific deep energy renovation service. This prioritises natural and low carbon renovation materials and methods for existing buildings. This service of Technical Facilitator is available to private clients, professionals, local authorities and specialist construction companies, working between the Owner/End User, Design Team and Contractor.

Materials' Analysis
Carrig's reputation had been built on its unique approach to building forensics and in particular our understanding of built heritage.
Our specialist lab will allow us to understand the material composition alongside the soiling or decay mechanisms, meaning we can then prescribe solutions to cleaning, consolidating, paint removal and repair techniques that will be compatible with the substrate in question. Paint Analysis
Paint Analysis is important to achieve, not only historic matches, but to understand the composition of historic paint used.
Samples are removed on site, and prepared for the lab, which completes a full in-depth analysis of cross-sections, comparison of layers and pigment identification using polarised light microscopy. Colour match swatches are available at an additional fee. |
Research
We cooperate with international organisations, governmental departments and local authorities to carry out research on critical heritage related matters, aiming at advocating for achievable goals and practical recommendations in preserving our heritage assets for future generations. Research partners include Dept. Culture, Heritage & Gaeltacht, Historic England, and Valentia Slate. Vertical Divider
