St. Mary's Church/
 Medieval Mile Museum, Kilkenny

the former parish church of st mary's (a national monument) was built c. 1202 as the place of worship for the prosperous Merchant community of kilkenny's high town.

A Brief History: Constructed in the early English style, the Church originally comprised  of an aisled nave, with north and south transepts and a long narrow chancel. Over the course of the building's rich, 800-year history, substantial alterations took place including the removal of the side aisles and a shortening of the chancel. Further significant works were carried out following deconsecration of the church in the 1950's when St Mary's found a new community use as a parish hall.
Acquired by Kilkenny County Council in 2009, St Mary's has now been re-purposed as the Medieval Mile Museum with ambitious lead-clad extensions, which reinstate the volume of the original chancel and north aisle.
