OLD JAMESON DISTILLERY, Dublin

DESIGNATED AS A PROTECTED STRUCTURE AND RECORDED BY THE dUBLIN CITY COUNCIL HERITAGE RECORD, THE OLD JAMESON DISTILLERY HAS FORMED PART OF dUBLIN'S RICH INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE.

A Brief History: The Old Jameson Distillery was established by John Jameson in 1810. Under the custodianship of Jameson, and his son, the Bow Street Distillery flourished so that by the close of the 19th Century it was one of the largest multi-storey buildings then in existence on the island.
Production continued on the site until the 1970's when distilling operations were transferred to Midelton, Cork. The old distillery building was later redeveloped as a visitor centre, which by 2016 had become outdated and no longer fit for purpose.

OLD JAMESON DISTILLERY before Refurbishment

Carrig was engaged to provide historic research, supporting planning documentation, detailed repair specification and on-site supervision of works.

The Distillery has been refurbished to include repair of masonry fire chambers relating to two historic distilling coppers, structural upgrade of a significant timber trusswork beam and improved interpretation of the surviving industrial heritage. Internal refurbishment has been carried out to provide appropriate visitor facilities designed to meet the changing business needs of the client and to ensure that the Old Jameson Distillery remains a viable tourist attraction within the city.
