John is a Senior Consultant, with over 15 years’ experience in the Heritage Sector, working as both Conservation Consultant and Buildings Archaeologist within conservation architecture and archaeological firms. John joined Carrig in 2007.
With an Honours Degree in Ancient History & Archaeology and a Postgraduate Qualification in Applied Building Repair & Conservation (Distinction), he uses his archaeological training and expertise in the built heritage to provide a holistic approach to the care and management of the historic environment in accordance with conservation best practice. John has a strong working relationship with colleagues across the entire heritage sector and has successfully worked with multi-disciplinary design teams and key stakeholders (Local Authorities, State Agencies and voluntary bodies) to find innovative and dynamic solutions as part of heritage-led sustainable regeneration. He has a clear understanding of the planning framework and has considerable experience in the drafting of historic fabric dilapidation surveys, impact assessments, & technical conservation repair specifications in support of Planning Applications and National Monument consents. John has proven experience in the management of complex conservation and built heritage projects to include: Dublin City Walls (Wood Quay Venue, Cook Street, Ship Street Little); St Mary’s Medieval Church and Graveyard, Kilkenny; No.10 Mill Street, Dublin; St James’s Church and Graveyard, Dublin; Fota House, Cork, Trinity College, Dublin, NUIG, Galway and Bank of Ireland, College Green, Dublin. John’s specialism is the funerary architecture of Ireland & Great Britain and has expert knowledge in the development of 18th & 19th century graveyards. He has worked as the Hon. Gazetteer Officer with the Mausolea & Monuments Trust since 2010, with responsibility for managing the charity’s on-line database of sites/monuments. John is an active member of the IHBC, ICOMOS Ireland, the Irish Limes Forum and The Mausolea and Monuments Trust and has delivered heritage based talks to a variety of interest groups and audiences. He has also lectured as part of the BSc in Applied Conservation Skills at Waterford Institute of Technology WIT. |
