Paula is an architect registered by the Council of Architecture and Urban Design of Brazil (CAU-BR) and has worked in many conservation projects in Brazil.
Paula has a bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Catholic University of Santos and a master’s degree from the School of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo -FAU-USP. She wrote a thesis called Coffee Warehouses: Industrial Typology in the City of Santos. She has a post-graduate degree in Restoration of Architectural and Urban Heritage In Brazil. Paula has eight years of professional experiences, three years as an intern and five years as a qualified architect. During this time, she worked on a range of project types and scale both public and private in all stages of work, from survey to tender drawings, with a focus on innovative conservation projects. She is currently working on Molyneux Home and the American Ambassador's residence in Dublin. Projects: Project - Dublin City Walls (National Monument), 2020 Client - Dublin City Council Description - Carrig Conservation was nominated by the Council as Conservation Consultant of the works. The proposed works comprise the conservation and repair of a section of the City Wall, at Wood Quay Venue. The City Walls were constructed c.1100 and the wall at Wood Quay Venue is 24.5m in length, composed of calp limestone. Project - The Rubrics, Trinity College Dublin, 2019-2020 Client - Trinity College Dublin Description - Technical Conservation Drawings for refurbishment and energy retrofit of the historic red brick accommodation block, built 1699-1702, and attributed to the Surveyor General of Ireland, Thomas Burgh. The Rubrics is the campus’ oldest surviving building and is both a protected structure and recorded monument. Project - Molyneux Home, Dublin, 2019-2020 Client - Esprit Investments Ltd. Description - Carrig was commissioned to provide specialist conservation services in relation to Molyneux Home, Leeson Park, Dublin 6. Built to house the Molyneux Asylum for blind females, a competition for the design was held in 1859 and the building was constructed in 1860-62. It was designed by the architect James Rawson Carroll (1830-1911) and built by the contractor Samuel Henry Bolton. The building is two storeys over basement in a neo-Gothic style. It is built in a H-shaped plan having brick chimneys, slate roof, and granite walls. The upper storey is semi-dormer with multiple gablets. Walls are hammer-dressed with an ashlar finish to the window and door dressings. Project - American Ambassador’s Residence, Dublin 2018-2019 Client - American Embassy Description - Carrig was commissioned to carry out a conservation assessment on the roofs of the outbuildings at Deerfield, comprising the gate lodges and other subsidiary buildings that form the 18th century estate and lie within the curtilage of the protected structure. Thirteen separate buildings with a complex range of construction phases were assessed and recorded under this project. Project - Vila Itororó, São Paulo. Client - São Paulo City Council Description - As architect of the Pedra Institute team, I worked on the Vila Itororó restoration project in the central region of São Paulo. Work included assembly survey and restoration project. Vila Itororó is an architectural ensemble created by Francisco de Castro, encompassing more than ten buildings erected in the course of the twentieth century for the purposes of residence and leisure. The restoration of Vila Itororó began in 2013, is carried out by means of a partnership between São Paulo Culture Municipal Secretary and Instituto Pedra. |
