ST JAMES' GRAVEYARD, Dublin

sT JAMES' GRAVEYARD IS A NATIONAL MONUMENT, ASSOCIATED WITH THE FORMER ST JAMES' CHURCH, WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY FOUNDED IN THE 12TH CENTURY.

A Brief History: The graveyard, in the ownership of Dublin City Council is the largest of the old Dublin city cemeteries. The surviving memorials date in the main to the period between the 1750s and 1950s, the earliest recorded inscription is dated 1627 and there are some burial rights still extant.
Carrig was engaged to survey the condition of the memorials in the graveyard and to draw up recommendations for their maintenance and/or repair. An individual record was created for each memorial. Each record was drawn up to include a unique identifying number, photographs and a description of the memorial, and the date and name of the earliest burial commemorated.

In addition, the condition of each memorial was noted and memorial-specific measures recommended. A detailed repair specification was prepared.
