UPCOMING EVENTS

In order to promote, influence and increase awareness of key elements of building conservation and the built heritage, we are available to facilitate CPDs, lectures and seminars to professionals, academic organisations and interested bodies throughout Ireland, Europe and beyond.

At Carrig, the team are all involved with associated voluntary organisations such as ICOMOS, STBA or SPAB. Outside of  their roles at Carrig, the team may be involved with events and you will find the information below.

Fundamentals of Energy Renovation for Traditional Buildings:
CPD Lecture Series
2019-2020

Interested in learning more about the risks, challenges and rewards of renovating traditional buildings for improved energy performance? Need more guidance on how to ensure your energy renovation project complies with the new building regulations? And what about embodied carbon and the rebound effect? How can practitioners account for these issues in the concept design phase of energy renovations

The Fundamentals of Energy Renovation for Traditional Buildings lecture series has been developed by the Heritage Council and Carrig Conservation International Ltd to answer these questions and more. The lecture series is open to qualified building professionals and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits will be provided by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and Engineers Ireland (EI). The lecture series has also been endorsed by the Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCSI). Deadline for booking is October 18th.

National heritage week 2019
August 17th-25th

National Heritage Week is part of European Heritage Days, in which over 40 European countries participate, to promote awareness of our built, natural and cultural heritage.
During the week, there were a series of mostly free events, showcasing the work done in Ireland to preserve and promote our heritage. The week kicked off with presentations in the Thomas Burgh House in Dublin, including one from our Conservation Consultant, Cora Coleman.

STBA & SPAB CONFERENCE
June 2019, LONDON

The 2019 STBA-SPAB Conference & Expo - Sustainability of Traditional Buildings - took place at The Gallery, 75 Cowcross Street, London, EC1M 6EL - kindly provided by Alan Baxter.
The sustainability of old buildings is reliant on their ongoing use and reuse in the modern world. Understanding how they function (building physics), and how we should be maintaining and upgrading them are key to their continued usefulness – particularly in view of the climate crisis and increased occupant demands.
The 2019 STBA-SPAB Conference & Expo looked at current research, the situation of regulations and initiatives, as well as the skills training that enable our built environment to include a wealth of healthy buildings with heritage and aesthetic value.
They looked at the important role materials play, heard from those successfully carrying out retrofit/refurbishment and received an update on the STBA large-scale pilot of retrofit using the whole-house approach (funded by the BEIS Building Thermal Efficiency Innovation Fund).

BIM4hERITAGE Annual conference: Learning from the past to preserve the future
london, June 27th 2019

The tragic events that happened at Notre-Dame Cathedral on the 15th April 2019 left the world in shock. Why did this happen? How could it occur? Could stakeholders have done more to prevent it?

This BIM4Heritage Conference, June 27th in London, analysed the issue of digital asset management of heritage structures and, through lessons that might be learnt from this tragedy, what else might be done to help prevent it happening again. Digital technologies such as recording, documentation and Building Information Modelling (BIM) can all contribute important information on the fabric, components and spaces that make up a heritage structure as well as acting as a crisis management tool to support urgent interventions or reconstructions of such iconic monuments. The Conference hosted a range of expert speakers and researchers to explore these themes and showcased successful case studies, in order to learn from the past to preserve the future. Our managing director, Peter Cox, attended and chaired a discussion at the event.
