Justin joined Carrig in 2024 as an Associate Director, having worked for several years in architectural conservation in the UK and Ireland, and has 25 years of experience in architectural practice.
Justin has worked on a number of heritage restoration projects, including upgrade works to the Royal Exchange in Manchester and the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool. His recent work with Corstorphine + Wright and Historic Coventry Trust on the regeneration of the city’s historic Burges has won a Future Cities Forum Award (High Streets Category, 2021) and been a finalist in the Royal Town Planning Institute Awards 2023 (Excellence in Planning for Heritage and Culture). Sample Projects: Project - Burges Conservation Area, Coventry Duration - 2017-2023 Description - Preparation of a Conservation Management Plan and delivery of improvement works to existing historic buildings and public realm. The project was a recipient of Heritage Lottery funding and was recently delivered as a national demonstrator project under Historic England’s High Street Heritage Action Zone programme. Project - Royal Exchange, Manchester Duration - 2014-2017 Description - The Royal Exchange is a Grade-II listed structure located in the St. Ann’s Square Conservation Area. The project included planning consents for refurbishments to the offices and retail arcade, and restoration works to the façade. Role of co-ordinating architect, principal designer, and heritage consultant, with responsibility for liaison with Manchester City Council, English Heritage, and statutory bodies. Project - Royal Liver Building, Liverpool Duration - 2017-2020 Description - Refurbishment and revitalisation of the Royal Liver Building, a Grade I heritage asset. The building forms one of the principal waterfront buildings of Liverpool’s World Heritage Site, recognised by UNESCO as being of outstanding universal value. The work involved fitting-out of offices and a new restaurant at roof level, and rationalisation of internal layouts and services. External works included façade cleaning, repair, lighting, and new landscaping. |
