Gissella obtained her Bachelor (Hons) degree in Architecture and Urbanism at the National University of Cordoba-Argentina and has a postgrad in Applied Building Repair and Conservation from Trinity College Dublin.
She has 3 years’ experience in contemporary design and construction working as a qualified architect in Argentina and has worked in conservation related projects in Ireland since 2016, of which six years have been for a windows conservation specialist company. She has been a tutor at UCD School of Engineering at the Design and Communication module for 2018 and 2019. Gissella has been a committee member of the Irish branch of the SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) since 2018 and has worked voluntarily towards the preservation and maintenance of the Irish built heritage ever since. Intangible Heritage was the theme for the bachelor’s degree’s; it was based on the cultural impact and imprint of Carnivals at an urban scale in the city of Cordoba. Since her arrival to Ireland, she develop a strong interest in Richard Turner’s work, especially his Glass Houses, theme of which she based her postgrad thesis and wishes to continue to develop and research. Sample Projects: Project - Parnell Square Library Project Client - Dublin City Council Description - The project comprises the construction of a new City Library, the refurbishment of No.s 23-28 Parnell Square North and adaptations to the Hugh Lane Gallery. Working with AECOM and Hawkins/Brown, Carrig are conservation consultants for works to the protected Georgian terrace and the Hugh Lane Gallery. Project - St Patricks University Hospital Client - TOT Architects Description - This masterplan project comprises three developments: the conversion of the 1740’s Dean Swift Building to a centre of excellence for mental health research, learning and advocacy; a multi-residential unit on the grounds of St Patrick’s in Dublin 8; and the construction of a new 200 bed facility at St Edmundsbury Hospital in Lucan, County Dublin. Carrig has provided conservation consultancy on the project since 2021. Project - Rossmore Mausoleum, Rossmore Forest Park, Monaghan Client - Monaghan County Council Description - In a project guided by Monaghan County Council’s heritage officer, Carrig was appointed as conservation consultant for a restoration project on the historic mausoleum of the Rossmore family. Built in 1874 to a design by London architect EJ Tarver, the mausoleum is idyllically placed in a woodland setting. Carrig developed a conservation strategy with specifications and drawings to highlight the required restoration works. |
